There is nothing that gets my goat more than people who say that the PS3 is the worst console becuase of its price. IT is such a narrow minded view it is amazing. First of all, price is not necessarily directly proportional to how good something is. If a product costs $1 or $1000, it is still the same product. Also, aren't most of the poeple on this site serious gamers? and as serious gamers, should a paltry $100 or $200 in the scheme of like 6 years make a difference? I understnd if you are like 8 years old and your mom wont get u one because it is too expensive, but last time I checked, the PS3 was never geared towards little kids. However, if none of the above paragraphs sway you, the fact is taht the PS3 is the cheapest console in the end, other than the Wii of course. Let's compare it to the 360, its only real competetor in terms of price range. Assuming we are talking about the premium $600 version of the PS3, even though the 20 gig version is completely functional right out of the box with an expandable harddrive. We are comparing this to the $400 Xbox 360, which is really the only version a sane person would pick up, considering you cant even play a lot of games out of the box without the harddrive. First off, let's start with the controllers, Each PS3 controller comes with a usb-mini usb cable, the equivalent of an Xbox 360 "Play-and-Charge" kit, which are 20$ each. Assuming you get 4 controllers, maybe not all at once, but four controllers, you are saving $80 right there. Also, Sony has shown that its consoles last for a hell of a long time. PS2 came out 1 year before the competition, but it is still alive and kicking today, with titles like guitar Hero II, Okami, and God of War II. In comparison, Microsoft hasnt put out a good Xbox game since the birth of the 360. That is two years more you will get out of the console. Given the versatility of the PS3 as a computer, you save a lot of money with peripherals. For the Xbox 360, if you want a harddrive, you have to buy microsofts proprietary 20 gig harddrive for $100. The PS3's harddrive is replaceable with any 2.5" SATA drive which you can find on sites like newegg for next to nothing, and you can find a 60 gig harddrive even at a big retail store like bestbuy for $70. Thats more room for less money. This trend goes beyond harddrives, microsoft demands you buy proprietary memory cards as well. The PS3 lets you use any flash drive for removeable memory, and any USB/bluetooth headset for online play.The 64 mb unit for 360 is $40, a 256 mb flash drive is only $20. Again more for your money. It is completely reasonable to get an extra harddrive and memory unit so that is $140 more there. And of course Xbox live. Sony's last gen online plan was a a joke, Live mopped the floor with it. However, Sony has learned from its mistakes, and created a unified system, much like Xbox live. People say that xbox live is more refined, which may be true, but i have not heard of any sort of lag or problems whatsoever, even on 40 player matches of Resistance. If we use the past as a model, and sony's las console has laster for 7 years, then at 50$ a year, you are saving $350. Also, there is sony's extra multimedia capabilities like blu-ray, memory card reader, NATIVE key word NATIVE 1080p games, HDMI, built in wifi and more. So in sum total, at the end of the console life cycle, if controllers, a harddrive, a memory stick, and Online play, are the ONLY accessories you get for your respective console, you are saving an extra $570 right there, not including other accesories or extra feaures and horsepower of the consoles. My point is that people should really stop ragging on the PS3 for its price, Not only is it a hell of a lot cheaper than the 360 in the long run, but you get more for your money. We should not choose consoles based on price in the first place, and that is why I prefer the PS3 over other consoles, but if you really want to keep beating that dead horse of price, this should promptly shut you the hell up. wow i just now realised that you could use any mini-usb cable to charge the controllers, i thought it was a special one designed for the ps3.... thanks. BTW amazing post, i always tell people that too, just w/o all the facts... great post |

I have told you all a million times that 360 is a pile of shit and you can believe what you want to! Time will tell..... as far as library goes yea we are short on games but when you see the shit that is gonna hit around september you are gonna wish you wouldnt have wasted your money |

To b onest... ii think both consoles kickass, apart from COD4 servers which suk ryt nw.... buh newaii... both consoles r good ii dunno wha all the bullshit arguemnt is about u guys act liiike its a sport and yur cheerin a team on... Team Xbox And Team Ps3... SAD... and apart from that, y waste yur tym slatin the other console? does it make yur life any better? lol... dnt kncok it till u try it either... and gook nice research... but 360 does have good games too :P |
